The Welding Academy is a Category 1 NZQA-approved welding training provider. We deliver full-time, industry-aligned programmes for beginners and for people who want a recognised pathway into work as a professional welder.

Welding is a versatile, in-demand trade across New Zealand manufacturing, construction, fabrication and engineering. Our programmes combine hands-on workshop practice with the theory employers expect, so graduates leave job-ready.
No previous welding experience is required.
The Welding Academy is 100% New Zealand owned and operated. It was established in Christchurch in December 1998 and registered with NZQA on 1 May 1999. We became a Category 1 NZQA-approved welding-training provider in 2018 and remain Category 1 today.
Category 1 is the highest level of recognition awarded by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). In our last External Evaluation and Review (EER), NZQA rated us Highly Confident in educational performance and Highly Confident in capability in self-assessment.
NZQA described the academy as “a high performing establishment providing an excellent training experience for welding students. The value of its outcomes is well regarded by industry.”
In 2019 we moved to our current site at 4a Lismore Street, Waltham, Christchurch. In 2023 we took over the neighbouring building as demand grew. The campus now has two fully equipped welding workshops and two modern classrooms.
Most graduates find work in the welding industry, in New Zealand and overseas. Employers regularly approach us with vacancies.
